When you are happy the plug is secure, either with or without grab adhesive (your decision), tap home the tube and attach your fitting with the screw. The plug itself is very wide - the hole is drilled with a 10 mm bit so if you’re hanging something with a small bracket it may show around the edges. Often resulting in the fixing screw bending slightly over time due to the distance between the rawl plug and the face of the plasterboard/item being fixed. This highly effective and innovative product was developed to safely secure heavy loads including cabinets and brackets to dot and dab plasterboard walls or board supported on battens. Each wall plug has enough depth to fill the gap between plasterboard and wall to transfer the load to the brick wall behind for a safe and secure hold.

Steel core for heavy duty use: Designed for heavy-duty use, these plasterboard over blockwork wall fixings include a steel core for reinforcement to provide a solid, reliable hold.The commonly used rawl plug and screw is a classic example, but for a more secure and safe fixing the Corefix solution is hard to beat. I’d be very interested to hear how you get on with the blue AIR ones if you wouldn’t mind updating once you’re done?

To install, drill a 10mm hole with a masonry or SDS bit to the depth of your red or blue Corefix plug, tap this home until the flange touches the plasterboard, tap home the engineered steel core until this is flush with the flange of the plug, offer up the bracket/fixture and screw home until tight. I was most impressed with the simplicity of the fittings, they’re very effective and strong, I dropped the rad on and they didn’t move at all. Hopefully someone will be along shortly who’s used them, but based on my experience of the normal ones I’d say to give them (AIR) a try.

however I’m going to give these fancy things a go just so I know how they work for the myriad of different tasks I’m going to face on these walls around my house! The plugs, while cleverly designed, are made of a very cheap material and the screw will strip it if tightened with anything other than a hand screwdriver. This covers a multitude of different styles of which Corefix is just one and you may also come across terms such as wall plug / wall anchor and drywall anchor.
