About this deal

Are you looking to paint your garage floor but not quite sure which paint or product to use? Well done you for taking the time to do a bit of research. Garage floor paint is nothing like the standard stuff you roll on walls, not even the good quality wall paint. It comes with the additional burden that you will be walking or driving on it, so needs to bond considerably firmer and be much stronger. For your first coat, dilute with up to 10% white spirit and allow to dry between 16-24 hours. After this time, you can apply a second coat. Time wise you need to PVA the floor (or use a pre sealer as recommended by most manufacturers). You also need two coats. In the perfect world you would have heaters turned on and 48 hours between each process. So it could literally take a week. If you can afford the time lapse then you’ll get the best results. Even in excellent conditions you need all of 16 hours minimum for a polyurethane paint to be re-coated. Really believe me, you can’t rush a good finish on this. So with the timelines understood you can begin to plan how you’ll apply your garage paint and when the project best suits you. To remove dust and dirt you can use a vacuum cleaner, jet wash or firm wire brush. These are usually effective in getting the surface clean. We also highly recommend you use our Acid Etch Primer, it’s easy to apply, and effectively dissolves mortar stains, cleans ingrained dirt and removes light oil. We know that painting a concrete floor can be a daunting job, and ensuring that it stays durable, especially in heavy-traffic areas, is very important. That’s why determining which type of floor paint is suitable for the surface, and prepping the surface beforehand is key. When painting any garage or commercial floor area the paint must be hard-wearing and able to withstand vehicles and foot traffic. It is also important to ensure that the temperature is above 10°C when applying.

Paintmaster Polyurethane Floor Paint comes in a selection of 15 colours, so it’s a good choice if you need a particular colour of garage floor for safety or aesthetic reasons. Make sure your garage is well-ventilated when the paint is drying as that’s reported to make quite a difference to the drying time. The semi-gloss finish of the paint serves as a resist to oil and grease. The manufacturer states that hot vehicle tyres won’t pull the paint up from the floor to transfer to them. This paint does, however, take much longer to dry than others we review, at between 14 to 16 hours. You shouldn’t be in a hurry to use the garage and walk on the floor. But when the floor is all dry, it really stands up to a lot of cleaning. Remember that the drying times given by the manufacturer depend on warm weather (usually around 20° C), low humidity and a constantly blowing breeze. Any change to these conditions lengthens the drying times, sometimes considerably. You can fake a breeze by using fans, but temperature and humidity are more difficult to control. The Leyland Trade Heavy Duty Floor Paint provides a hardwearing, durable satin finish. It’s designed to endure repeated cleaning making it ideal for use on any concrete or wooden surfaces and is best suited to garage floors.

How to choose the best garage floor paint for keeping dust and dirt at bay

This is one of the best garage floor paints on the market and offers incredible value for money. Per litre it’s as cheap as any other whilst providing a quality finish you’d expect to get from something much more expensive. Overall fantastic paint. Priming isn’t required but similar to Leyland, you should dilute the paint by 10% with white spirit for the first coat. After the 2 coats are applied (give it a day or so before applying the second coat) you’ll be left with a clean and smooth light grey finish. Features

The ultimate protection for garage floors, its unique water-based acrylic formula, developed specifically for use on stone as concrete garage floors, is tough, durable and chemical resistant formulaOnce your surface is clean and dry, it’s time to prepare your paint. Depending on which paint you opt for there’ll be different instructions. Our advice here – follow them, the manufacturers know best. Finally, you’re going to have to play the waiting game again. Most paints will allow for light foot traffic within several hours but it can be a couple of weeks before your fresh paint is set enough to endure vehicles parking on it. Summary Make sure you wash, vacuum and/or sweep the floor beforehand. Please remove all grease and oil spills, dust and dirt, bits and pieces of litter and any loose materials. Ronseal consistently make high quality paint and this is one in particular follows suit. If you’re looking for a specific paint for garage floors, this one will definitely do the job! It’s somewhat expensive and you’d probably be better off going for something else if you’re working with a budget.
