Brooks set out in 2021 to simplify its lineup by grouping shoes into experiences and then splitting those between neutral and support. The Glycerin is the first example of that. Brooks Glycerin 19 Mens Running Shoes include more of the DNA LOFT cushioning that has been engineered to provide you with a great luxurious feel underfoot but without losing the responsiveness you require and makes every transition from heel to toe soft and smooth. If the Glycerin GTS 19 is an indicator of what’s to come, it is only going to strengthen that loyalty.

They provided one of the smoothest foot strike to toe offs transitions I have experienced. This lends itself perfectly to easy runs and longer distances. The Brooks Glycerin 19 is inviting and comfortable, there’s lots of padding in the upper, and the midsole has a smooth, yet slightly uninspired ride, which for an everyday trainer is not necessarily a bad thing, it's consistent. While the differences between then Glycerin 18 and Glycerin 19 aren’t huge, there is one big change to the Glycerin this year: the introduction of the Glycerin 19 GTS.The cushion feels perfectly balanced,” one reviewer says. “It’s so soft, yet you don't feel like you are wearing a clunky, heavy, high-cushion shoe.” There’s nothing wrong with being a firm, max-cushioned shoe. Some runners prefer firmer shoes because they are more stable and more responsive but the problem is that the advertising for the Glycerin is misleading. Rather than correcting how your body moves, GuideRails help your hips, knees and joints find their ideal path. Brooks says encouraging your natural motion path makes it easier to maintain your most efficient stride. From time to time carriers may deliver earlier or later, or on non working days however this is cannot be guaranteed nor should it be expected. The maiden voyage of the Glycerin GTS was a 5-mile hilly route. Although they had an ample bounce out of the box, they were stiff and I knew I was in for a break-in period.

The midsole is made of a single density DNA Loft EVA compound. This material provides a cushioned, yet bouncy, feel. It translates in a comfortable ride from the first step. There is a simplified look to the upper which means fewer 3d printed overlays. Because of this there are no points of irritation for your feet. The upper of the Brooks Glycerin GTS features top tier materials and it shows and performs as such. The air mesh upper along with gusseted tongue adapt and form to your foot while maintaining flexibility. The heel counter and ample cushioning provide a secure fit that translated into stability of the shoe. Overall, the upper carried on the dream-like feeling of running in these.

I’ve never ever thought of the Glycerin as a super soft ride. It’s always been one of the firmest max-cushioned trainers. I wanted to run in them long after my review miles. Together with the Adrenaline, they would make an ideal running rotation. While the standard Glycerin model is a maximum-cushioned, neutral trainer, the Brooks Glycerin GTS 19 and 20 (newly released in July 2022) are classed as stability trainers. Stability running shoes such as these are ideal for runners with overpronation, who need more ankle support and a less flexible sole.

Upon opening the box I was impressed with the design and colorway of the Glycerin GTS 19. The neon yellow logo along with the light blue/yellow of guide rails stood out from the navy blue of the rest of the upper.

Brooks Glycerin GTS 19 Sole Unit

The Glycerin has been using the same DNA Loft midsole foam for the past 4 versions with very subtle changes in midsole foam density in each version. Outsole durability is also below average so it’s not a durable workhorse that can do over 1000 kilometres. Kaleb: "This is my first pair of Glycerin shoes, and I have been impressed with the upper so far. The 3D Fit Print design provided a secure wrap that was very adaptable to my foot shape. I also appreciated the room in the forefoot, which allowed for toe splay. I did experience some Achilles irritation from the heel collar, but this problem dissipated after a short break-in period. I also found the upper to be on the warmer side when I was running in hotter conditions."

The gusseted tongue (attached to the midsole) aids this fit as well, making it almost a glove like feel. This increases the temperature in the upper. But what makes it good isn’t just the zones for different parts of the shoe. The mesh also feels soft and smooth, which makes it more comfortable around your foot. This has been the case for my Brooks experiences. Once they are broken in they were a dream to run in. Brooks draped the shoe in its 3D print mesh upper. The mesh provides different zones of stretch and structure, which gives the Glycerin a more dynamic fit. The mesh over the toe box has a bit of stretch to it, while the midfoot and heel are more static.
